About MCPRank Guides

MCPRank Guides is an independent learning hub for the Model Context Protocol (MCP), the open standard that connects AI applications to tools, data and workflows. We write plain-language guides for people who want to use MCP servers with the AI tools they already have, and for developers who want to build their own.

What we cover

  • MCP basics: hosts, clients and servers; tools, resources and prompts; local stdio vs. remote Streamable HTTP.
  • Install and configure: step-by-step setup for clients such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code.
  • Build a server: from an empty folder to a working server with an official SDK.
  • Security: least-privilege access, handling secrets and vetting third-party servers.

How we write

Guides are checked against the official documentation of the MCP project and of each client at the time of writing. Client settings change between versions, so every guide links to its sources and should be read alongside the official docs. The first guides are being written and fact-checked now.

Who runs MCPRank Guides

MCPRank Guides is operated by jecrs687, based in Malta. It is the learning companion to MCPRank, a directory of MCP servers that will be ranked on transparent, published criteria. We are not affiliated with Anthropic or the MCP project.
